There Are Many Different Types of Chickens


In choosing which chicken breed to buy or to take care of, you must first know your purpose for acquiring them. There are many chicken breeds and not every breed may satisfy your needs for a chicken. There are some breeds that is perfect in providing you meat as a source of food, some breeds are good in laying perfect eggs for a wonderful breakfast menu every morning, while there are some breeds which is only good as pets or for show off. There is not a single breed that will answer to everything that you are looking for in a chicken. Chicken breeds can also be distinguished through their physical qualities such as plumage color, size, skin color, comb type, number of toes, egg color, and amount of feathering and place of origin. The mere look at a chicken may not give you idea on what the chicken is good for unless it is a show bird or has a rare class. It takes time to breed chicken and there are many reasons for that. One reason why it takes time to breed chicken is that they are used to produce eggs and meat. There are over 200 chicken breeds and each type may have different variations like colored versions.
